4 Signs You May Need Water Well Pump Service

Apr 30, 2024

Having a personal well on your property can be a great asset. Many people enjoy the taste of well water just more than municipal water. You can also save a lot of money each year when you don’t have a water bill to deal with. However, there is some maintenance involved in owning a well pump. Pumps can usually be relied upon to last between 8 and 15 years with good maintenance according to HomeServe. Here are a few signs, though, that your pump might need some attention.

1. Fluctuations in Water Pressure

Water pressure changes can be caused by poorly functioning water well pumps. If your water pressure is constantly changing, seek professional water well services to inspect the pump. This way, you’ll know for sure if you need repairs or replacement.

2. Noisy Tank

A good pump will make some noise, but it shouldn’t make sudden noises you’ve never heard before. Clicking, clanking, and grinding could all be signs that the bladder within the pump is losing air. This can cause your pump to start and stop frequently, straining the motor and leading to early wear. This will reduce the life expectancy of the pump. You’ll need a qualified professional to help make repairs of this kind.

3. Spitting Faucets

If a pressure tank bladder starts leaking, you may see signs inside your house. Spurts of water coming out of the faucet are a sure sign that there are problems with your well pump. If you don’t have it looked at quickly, it can shorten the life of your pump.

4. Scalding Water

If you notice sudden changes in your water temperature while showering or doing dishes, it could signify a problem with the pressure tank. If your home is equipped with a two or three-handle tub and shower valve, there won’t be a pressure balancing spool. When there is a drop in pressure from the well pump, the hot water balance is changed and you’ll be scalded in the shower.

These are just a few signs that you might have problems with your well pump. If you’re looking for professionals in your area to help you with well repairs, contact DMB Drilling Co Inc. Our combined 75 years of experience will help with each of your problems.
